Celebrated Polish musician Stanisław Soyka has died at the age of 66. A preliminary examination by a medical examiner has found no evidence of third-party involvement in his death, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

According to Michał Łukasiewicz, the district prosecutor in Sopot, as reported by Gazeta.pl on Friday afternoon, a close associate of the artist discovered Soyka’s body in a hotel. The prosecutor arrived at the scene after paramedics, including a doctor, confirmed the death. During the examination of Soyka’s body, with the participation of a forensic medical expert, it was determined that no third parties contributed to his death. The autopsy of the artist is scheduled for Monday and will be conducted at the Department of Forensic Medicine of the Medical University of Gdańsk. The prosecutor’s office stated that they may also obtain medical documentation regarding Stanisław Soyka’s health condition. The investigation is being conducted under the angle of unintentional causing of death, which is a standard procedure in this type of situation.
Stanisław Soyka’s Life and Career
Stanisław Soyka died on Thursday in a hotel in Sopot at the age of 66. He was scheduled to perform at the Top of the Top festival that evening. The vocalist, pianist, guitarist, violinist, composer, and arranger had recorded dozens of albums, including “Soyka sings Ellington” (1981), “Acoustic” (1991), “Tolerancja” (1992), “Soyka Sings Shakespeare’s Sonnets” (2007), and “Muzyka i słowa Stanisław Soyka” (2013). His artistic activity was repeatedly awarded. The artist revealed in public statements that he struggled with type II diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Tributes and Condolences
“With deep sadness, we received the news of the death of Stanisław Soyka. His departure is a great loss for the Polish music scene,” the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage announced late Thursday evening. “Soyka combined jazz finesse with pop sensitivity, was a multi-instrumentalist and creator who inspired. Charismatic, full of warmth, and close to the public. We thank you for all the sounds that will remain with us forever.”
