Renowned Polish Political Scientist Diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer

Polish political scientist Marek Migalski announced on November 16 that he has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer following a routine colonoscopy, urging early screening to save lives.

Diagnosis After Colonoscopy

Marek Migalski revealed on November 16 that he is undergoing surgery to remove the diseased portion of the sigmoid colon, scheduled for the day after his announcement. He explained that the cancer was first detected during a colonoscopy he had carried out “just in case,” despite feeling no symptoms.

The oncologist immediately identified malignant changes and predicted that surgery would be necessary. Migalski stressed that earlier screening could have removed a polyp and possibly prevented the disease entirely.

Urgent Call for Early Screening

In his post, Migalski urged people to perform colonoscopies, gastroscopies, biomarker tests, and CT scans. He emphasized that some tests can be done free of charge while others deserve payment, citing his own statement that “life is worth it.”

He cautioned against waiting for New Year resolutions to cover cancer screening, suggesting that timely examinations might become the most important decision of one’s life.

National Health Program Offers Free Tests

Poland’s National Health Fund (NFZ) runs several preventive programs offering free colorectal cancer screenings. The program targets asymptomatic adults aged 50‑65, or 40‑49 if there is a first‑degree relative with colorectal cancer.

Other NFZ initiatives include breast cancer and cervical cancer prevention, highlighting the state’s commitment to early detection.

Public Support and Hope

Following Migalski’s announcement, thousands of comments of encouragement and petitions for swift recovery appeared on social media. Supporters wished him strength and a quick return to health.
