Report: Polish TNT May Fuel Bombs Killing Gaza Civilians

A joint investigative report claims TNT manufactured in Bydgoszcz, Poland, is used in U.S. Mk‑80 bombs that kill civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Supply Chain of U.S. Air‑Dropped Bombs

The report, compiled by four pro‑Palestinian investigative groups, charts the U.S. air‑bomb supply chain. It shows that the Polish supplier Nitro‑Chem produces TNT that is incorporated into Israel’s Mk‑80 series bombs dropped over Gaza.

Human Toll in Gaza

Since the war began in October 2023, Israeli forces have used thousands of air‑dropped bombs and artillery shells. At least 69 000 people have died and more than 100 000 have been injured, with many civilians—including children—killed by airstrikes and shelling.

Polish Plant Produces TNT

Nitro‑Chem, a Polish State‑owned enterprise under the Polish Armed Forces Group, is the EU’s and North America’s sole large TNT producer. The company describes itself as the “largest TNT producer in Europe.”

U.S.–Polish Contract and Delivery

In April, Nitro‑Chem signed a 1.2 billion‑PLN deal with Paramount Enterprises International to supply 18 000 tons of TNT over three years. Ninety percent of the TNT is destined for U.S. military use, including in 155 mm artillery shells and Mk‑82 to Mk‑84 air bombs.

Broader Strategic Impact

Polish TNT production supports NATO’s defense posture against Russia and provides artillery ammunition to Ukraine, where daily consumption is 5–10 000~ 155 mm shells. Poland is expanding its munitions capacity to meet this demand.
