On the N‑9 shaft at 830 m below surface, a rock and gas blast in the Pniówek coal mine caused a sudden evacuation. The national WZZ Commission “August 80” reported the event, and a spokesperson for Jastrzębska Coal Company confirmed that contact with two miners was lost. Ten workers were working when the blast struck; eight were successfully evacuated.
Rescue Teams on Scene
Two professional squads from the Central Mine Rescue Station in Bytom, and rescuers from the Wodzisław Śląski branch, have joined the operation. A team of two doctors and a thermometer, along with psychological support services, has also been dispatched to the site.
