Resident Physician Pay Raises Proposed for July 2026

A Polish Health Ministry project proposes increased salaries for approximately 52,000 resident physicians starting July 1, 2026, varying by specialty and training stage.

Resident Physician Salary Changes Planned for 2026

The Ministry of Health has drafted regulations to adjust resident physician salaries, effective July 1, 2026. The changes aim to align pay with statutory calculation principles.

Approximately 52,000 doctors could benefit from the increases, but the exact amount will depend on their chosen field and level of training.

Salary Levels by Specialization

Resident physicians in certain specializations will receive:

Remaining Specializations – 2026 Resident Pay

In other fields, salaries will be lower than those specified for the listed specializations.

Incentivizing High-Demand Specialties

The project’s author explains that the higher rates are intended to encourage doctors to choose specialties where there are significant shortages.

Orthodontics Exception – Existing Rates Maintained

Dentists who began their orthodontics specialization before July 2020 will retain their current, more favorable salary terms until the completion of their training.

Immediate Implementation – No Transition Period

The new regulations are slated to replace existing rules and come into effect on July 1, 2026, without a transitional period.

Who Will Benefit from the Pay Increases?

The proposed increases will apply to both newly entering residents and those already in advanced stages of their training. The Ministry of Health estimates that up to 52,000 individuals could be affected.

Public Consultation Phase

The draft regulation has been submitted for public consultation.
