A 27-year-old man was apprehended in Tychy after fleeing a robbery in Mikołów and becoming stranded with the stolen vehicle on railway tracks.
Robbery and Vehicle Theft
Police were notified of a robbery on Sunday, April 26th, around 4:00 PM on Rybnicka Street. The driver of a Volkswagen Polo was forced to stop by an unknown man who suddenly appeared in front of the car, opened the door, and forcibly removed her from the vehicle.
Despite attempts by witnesses to intervene, the assailant managed to drive away in the stolen car.
Stranded on the Tracks
The suspect drove to Łaziska Górne, where he turned onto a dead-end street ending at railway tracks. While attempting to cross the tracks at an unsuitable point, the vehicle became stuck on the high rails.
The suspect exited the vehicle, and a passing train collided with the abandoned Volkswagen Polo. Fortunately, the train operator slowed down upon seeing the vehicle, preventing any injuries to passengers, according to Mikołów police.
Extensive Search Operation
Officers launched a search for the suspect, involving personnel from Mikołów, Katowice City Police Headquarters, the Anti-Terrorist Unit in Katowice, Tychy City Police Headquarters, and the Special Police Patrol in Bielsko-Biała.
Law enforcement utilized a drone with thermal imaging and police dogs to track the man.
