Three Romanian citizens have been arrested and charged for stealing luxury vehicles worth over 360,000 złoty, with international cooperation leading to recovery of one of the cars in Lithuania.
Arrest and Charges
Police officers from Warsaw’s Ursynów district arrested three Romanian nationals suspected of car theft. The suspects are accused of stealing two luxury vehicles worth a combined 380,000 złoty. All suspects heard charges at the Pruszków Regional Prosecutor’s Office and were remanded in custody for three months.
The suspects, aged 24 to 43, were apprehended at a hostel in Warsaw’s Ursynów district following detailed investigation and operational work.
International Recovery Operation
The thefts occurred in late January when police received a report about a stolen Audi worth approximately 220,000 złoty belonging to a Warsaw-based company. The vehicle was tracked via GPS and found to be heading toward the Polish border.
Through cooperation with the Metropolitan Police’s Car Crime Unit and the Podlasie Border Guard, authorities determined the vehicle had crossed into Lithuania. The Lithuanian Police quickly located and secured the stolen car, arresting the Romanian national driving it. A second stolen Mercedes was also discovered during the operation.
Legal Proceedings
The gathered evidence led to charges including theft of property of significant value and joint criminal activity. If convicted, the suspects face up to 10 years in prison.
Prosecutors successfully argued for the three-month detention measure, highlighting that international cooperation was instrumental in the successful resolution of this cross-border crime case.
Police Cooperation
Authorities emphasized that the operation’s success was due to the full commitment of officers from Warsaw II Regional Police Headquarters, close cooperation with specialized units of the Metropolitan Police, and excellent coordination with foreign police services.
This case demonstrates how quick reaction, professionalism, and international cooperation effectively combat transnational car theft crimes.
