Romanian nationalist George Simion allegedly offered free online support to Karol Nawrocki’s 2024 campaign, raising questions over the legality of foreign involvement in Polish elections.
Simion in Poland and the MEGA Movement
According to Frontstory.pl, George Simion, former Romanian presidential candidate and leader of the nationalist party AUR, was heavily involved in the Polish political scene during the presidential campaign. He appeared at Karol Nawrocki’s rallies and right‑wing conferences that gather anti‑EU Trump‑inspired politicians from across Europe. In Poland he openly rejected the European Union and endorsed Donald Trump’s support for Nawrocki, also attending the PiS candidate’s election rally and inauguration events.
Help in the Campaign
Frontstory journalists report that Simion admitted his circle offered Nawrocki’s campaign “internet tools”, especially to reach young voters. He claimed the support was non‑profit and ideological, not commercial. No records of formal cooperation with Romanian firms or AUR affiliates appear in Nawrocki’s campaign committee financial documents.
Romanian Social Media Specialists
The report highlights Nicolae Capcea, co‑founder of Follow Digital Solutions, which managed online campaigns for AUR and Simion. The company received over €2 million from the Romanian party for 2024‑2025 online activities. Follow Digital Solutions also provides services to Patryk Jakie, a PiS MEP and co‑chair of the ECR group in the European Parliament, and its Romanian administrators reportedly managed social media accounts for Karol Nawrocki and Sovereign Poland politicians.
Campaign Tools
Manychat, a tool for automated Facebook interactions, was described as part of the support offered to Nawrocki. Experts point out that free assistance from foreigners may violate the Polish Electoral Code, which prohibits receiving non‑monetary benefits from foreign nationals. Law‑enforcement agencies would need to investigate further.
Network Around MEGA
Frontstory notes that MEGA is more than a slogan; it is an international political network involving American far‑right activists like Brian S. Brown and pro‑Russian or anti‑EU politicians. MEGA conferences have taken place in various European cities, and in Moldova, intelligence services raised concerns about opaque financing and potential security risks.
Trzaskowski Already Faces Turmoil
Journalists have also raised allegations of foreign interference in Polish elections, this time targeting Rafał Trzaskowski. Questions arose about the funding of his social media ads and claims that spots promoted him while discrediting Sławomir Mentzen and Karol Nawrocki. In September the prosecutor’s office opened an inquiry into an online advertising campaign on Meta platforms; NASK identified possible foreign links and referred the case to the Internal Security Agency. Analyses linked the operation to citizens and firms from third countries but did not confirm external interference. Earlier, Wirtualna Polska reported financing ties involving people linked to the US Democratic Party and Vienna‑based Estratos Digital GmbH, prompting PiS politicians to file a complaint with prosecutors.
