Polish former justice minister Marcin Romanowski said he would encourage Zbigniew Ziobro to apply for political asylum in Hungary amid ongoing criminal accusations.
Romanowski Advises Ziobro to Apply for Asylum in Hungary
During a TVN24 interview, Romanowski replied that he would “definitely encourage” Ziobro to use the possibility of legal protection, despite doubts about where Ziobro is currently located.
Romanowski on “Bandits in Dress of Judges”
The former justice minister was asked if former ministers deserve to flee before the judicial system, to which he said Poland currently faces “bandits in prosecutor and judge robes.” He noted that if the system does not exist, fleeing is impossible, and that Ziobro will make the best decision for Poland.
What Happens Next for Ziobro
The Internal Security Agency has been instructed to detain and transfer Ziobro to the prosecutor’s office after the Sejm passed a resolution allowing criminal prosecution of the Law and Justice MP. A prosecutor issued a decision to present 26 charges and to detain Ziobro, but there is no information that he has applied for political asylum in Hungary.
Will Ziobro Face the Same Fate as Romanowski
Poland’s top lawyer’s council says Hungary would refuse to hand over Ziobro, similar to what happened with Romanowski, whose extradition procedures looked alike. Experts add that the 2026 Hungarian parliamentary elections could end the long‑standing government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
