Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, Senator Marco Rubio, and Lech Wałęsa’s son Jarosław Wałęsa participated in a ceremony in Miami where Cuban activist Berta Soler received the prestigious Solidarity Award named after Lech Wałęsa.
Berta Soler Honored
Congressman Rubio praised Soler’s leadership saying, “It was an honor to join Radosław Sikorski when the Polish government honored Cuban pro-democratic activist Berta Soler with the prestigious Lech Wałęsa Solidarity Award from the Ladies in White organization.”
Soler’s Background
Berta Soler, born in 1963 in Cuba, studied microbiology and became a medical technician in Havana. In 1988, her husband, opposition activist Ángel Moya Acevedo, was arrested by Cuban authorities, leading her to become the leader of the Ladies in White organization.
