Russia Accuses France and UK of Nuclear Arms Transfer

Russia’s SVR claims France and Britain are supplying Ukraine with nuclear weapons to force victory against Moscow.

Russian Disinformation Campaign

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated on Tuesday, February 24, that Britain and France believe Ukraine cannot defeat Russia and intend for it to possess nuclear or “dirty bomb” capabilities. The SVR alleges this involves secret transfers of European nuclear technology, including French TN75 warheads for submarine-launched missiles.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer rejected this narrative the same day, asserting “Russia is not winning this war.” France’s Ministry of Armed Forces countered that Russia must cease bombings and accept a ceasefire.

Alleged Nuclear Arms Transfer

The SVR accused Britain and France of “egregious violations of international nuclear non-proliferation law,” claiming their actions risk destabilizing global security. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed Russia would consider the claims in ongoing negotiations, calling them “potentially extraordinarily dangerous.”

Expert Analysis and Zelensky’s Response

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) dismissed Russia’s military claims as false, noting the Kremlin exaggerates territorial gains while Ukraine’s defense remains non-critical. Senior ISW analyst George Barros emphasized Russia’s military limitations and urged against Western policy shifts based on false narratives.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denied nuclear weapons discussions with Western partners in January, stating Ukraine focuses solely on conventional security guarantees, troop protection, and defense systems.
