Major General Pawel Muraviecki Describes Zapad-2025
Major General Pawel Muraviecki, head of the General Staff of the Belarusian military, stated that all planned exercises were successfully completed during the Zapad-2025 military exercises. The joint Russia-Belarus maneuvers took place from September 12th.
Weapons Used During Exercises
The exercises included the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons and the “Oresnik” missile system. Muraviecki emphasized that these exercises provide valuable materials for reflection on the nature of modern warfare and its training of soldiers.
Alaksandr Lukashenko’s Perspective
Belarusian leader Alaksandr Lukashenko noted that the exercises aimed to increase Belarus’s security level but were not meant as threats to other nations. Earlier Zapad exercises took place in 2021. Analysts pointed out that these exercises were part of preparations for Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
