Russia Planned a Second September 11, Scale of Disruption Said to Be Massive

Russian authorities allegedly plotted a second September 11 by staging explosive tests across Europe, officials say, prompting arrests in Poland and Lithuania.

Russian sabotage plot

According to the “Financial Times” cited by Forsal.pl, a Russian sabotage network planned to hide explosives in packages mailed from Lithuania to DHL logistics centres in Poland, Germany and the United Kingdom. European intelligence agencies say these were only tests to prepare for larger attacks in Europe.

Alleged 9/11 replica

Leaked materials suggested that the same explosives could have enabled attacks comparable in scale to the September 11, 2001 attacks, including potential strikes on passenger planes bound for the United States.

Arrests and counter‑intelligence response

Security services detained and charged at least 20 persons in Poland and Lithuania. The organiser of the network allegedly fled to Azerbaijan. Russian officials are said to recruit Eastern‑European citizens and criminal associates, issuing instructions remotely and paying saboteurs in cryptocurrencies to obscure the chain of command.

Historical context of 9/11

On September 11, 2001, four hijacked planes struck the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania, killing 2,753 people in New York and 184 in Arlington, Virginia.
