Russia Responds Firmly to Pentagon Decision; Zacharowa Warns USA

Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Marija Zacharowa warned the United States on November 1 that further US military aid to Ukraine would not end the conflict.

Zacharowa comments on Pentagon’s Tomahawk decision

According to CNN, the Pentagon had agreed to give Ukraine Tomahawk long‑range missiles. It was also stated that the final decision on the Tomahawks would be made by Donald Trump. On Saturday, November 1, Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Marija Zacharowa voiced her stance. She told journalists that further arms deliveries to Ukraine would contribute to ending the conflict. She echoed the narrative spread by Russian propaganda that labels the Ukrainian authorities as representatives of a “terrorist regime.” “The current situation and events of the last year show that militarization and arms deliveries, especially to a terrorist regime, will not produce any solution,” Zacharowa said.

Zacharowa cites Trump’s promises

The Russian foreign ministry spokesperson also referred to the US president’s declaration that, through his actions, the war in Ukraine would come to an end. Zacharowa stated that any arms deliveries to Ukraine would prevent the fulfillment of Trump’s promises.

Pentagon analysis on Tomahawks

Reports of the Pentagon’s decision first appeared on Friday, October 31. According to CNN, the Pentagon conducted a military analysis that concluded that supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would not negatively affect U.S. security. The White House was to be informed that the United States had sufficient missiles to assist Ukraine without weakening its own defensive capabilities.

Trump says we cannot give all our weapons to Ukraine

On October 16, Donald Trump spoke by phone with Vladimir Putin. Reportedly, Putin warned Trump that sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine could trigger conflict escalation and harm U.S.–Russia relations. The next day, Trump met President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. After the meeting, Trump responded to Ukraine’s request for Tomahawks. “It is brutal, cruel weapon … but we also need it for ourselves. We cannot give all our weapons to Ukraine … I was very good to President Zelensky and to Ukraine, but we can only give what is not too little for us,” he said.
