Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Russian forces targeted a critical nuclear infrastructure facility on Sunday, June 7, labeling the act a reckless escalation that disregards international safety standards.

Zelensky Condemns Russian Aggression

President Volodymyr Zelensky described the assault as a vile attack, noting that Russia has deliberately targeted a specific nuclear infrastructure site. While current radiation levels remain within normal parameters, the President warned that Russia’s audacity has crossed all permissible norms.

Ukrainian emergency services have successfully extinguished the fire resulting from the strike. Zelensky called on the international community to take decisive action to ensure that Russia faces tangible consequences for its state-sponsored nuclear terrorism.

IAEA Investigation and Concerns

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi stated that the incident is deeply troubling, particularly as the site houses significant quantities of nuclear material. Experts from the agency are being dispatched to the location to assess the impact of the attack.

Grossi reiterated that any strikes against nuclear facilities are entirely unacceptable and represent a direct violation of fundamental safety and security principles.

Energoatom Report on Facility Status

Ukrainian state operator Energoatom confirmed that no spent nuclear fuel was stored in the container targeted by Russian forces. The company reported that no personnel were injured during the strike.

In an official statement, Energoatom declared that the attack exposes the true nature of the Kremlin regime, which continues to act as a nuclear terrorist state, endangering the safety of millions and blatantly ignoring international law.
