Russia Tests NATO Patience: Drone Incidents Confirmed in Finland

Two drones crashed near Kouvola, Finland, on Sunday, marking the first time since the war in Ukraine that unmanned aerial vehicles have penetrated Finnish airspace.

Russian Provocations Alleged

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that Kyiv is in constant contact with Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland regarding recent drone incidents.

Ukrainian intelligence suggests Russia may be attempting to create tensions between Ukraine and its European allies by blaming Kyiv for drone incidents outside its borders, according to Sybiha. He affirmed that Ukraine has never intentionally directed drones toward these countries and is cooperating with partners to prevent future occurrences.

Drones Deviated from Course

Ukraine apologized to Helsinki for the incident involving Ukrainian drones falling on Finnish territory, stating the machines likely deviated from their course.

According to Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhij Tychyj, no Ukrainian drones were intentionally directed toward Finland, and the most probable cause is interference from Russian electronic warfare systems. He stated that they have apologized to the Finnish side for the incident.

Tychyj added that Ukraine and Finland share the belief that Russian aggression against Ukraine is the root cause of both this incident and broader security challenges in the region.

Previous Ukrainian Drone Strikes

Ukrainian drones have recently attacked the Baltic ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga in northwestern Russia.
