Russia Urges U.S. to Return to Iran Negotiations

Russia has appealed to the United States for de-escalation regarding Iran, advocating a return to negotiations to normalize the situation in the Middle East.

Russia believes that the U.S. abandoning “ultimatum language” and returning to a path of negotiation would contribute to this process.

According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, both countries’ ministers appealed for avoiding actions that could undermine the chances of a diplomatic resolution to the crisis – including within the UN Security Council.

Lavrov’s Conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister

On Sunday, April 5th, Lavrov held a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Wang Yi stated that China is ready to continue cooperating with Russia within the UN Security Council to ease tensions in the Middle East, according to Xinhua.

China Emphasizes Ceasefire as Key to Resolving Shipping Issues

The Chinese side emphasized that the main way to resolve problems with navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is to quickly achieve a ceasefire in the Middle East.

Beijing supports resolving disputes through dialogue and negotiation.

Moscow Expresses Satisfaction with Alignment with China

In a separate statement regarding Lavrov’s conversation with the Chinese Foreign Minister, Moscow expressed “satisfaction with the convergence of approaches between Russia and China on most current issues of the international agenda, including – the situation around Iran, related to the unprovoked aggression of the USA and Israel.”
