Russia has launched a fighter‑interception operation to secure airspace over Poland, temporarily closing Rzeszów and Lublin airports, while explosions and drone attacks continue across Ukraine.
Operational Command Orders Fighter Interception
The Operational Command of the Armed Forces issued orders to intercept fighter jets to secure airspace and protect vulnerable areas, particularly near threatened zones.
Following established procedures, the commander activated necessary forces and resources. Duty pairs of fighters and early‑warning aircraft were deployed, while air‑defence and radar‑reconnaissance systems were brought to maximum readiness.
Polish Airports Temporarily Closed
Polish civil aviation authorities announced that Rzeszów and Lublin airports were temporarily shut to ensure the freedom of operation for military aviation.
The closures were considered necessary amid the heightened security situation.
Airspace Monitoring and Immediate Readiness
The Operational Command monitors the situation closely, keeping all subordinate units and resources ready for an immediate response.
Explosions in Lviv and Surrounding Regions
Russian attacks continue, with explosions reported in Chmielnixk, Tarnopol, and Iwanofrankowsk oblasts. Residents of Lviv also heard explosions.
Media outlets reported a large drone strike on Kharkiv, during which 11 drones hit two city districts, igniting a residential block and damaging a medical facility where a doctor was injured.
Drone Attack on Kharkiv
Drones struck the city’s medical centre, destroying the building and catching nearby cars in the blast. The attack has added to the growing toll of damage in Ukraine.
Unannounced Visit of US Army Chiefs to Kyiv
On Wednesday, Politico reported that US Army Chief of Staff General Randy George and Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll made an unannounced trip to Kyiv to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, politicians, and military leaders.
The visit aimed to strengthen Ukraine’s engagement in the peace process with Russia, with Driscoll later meeting Kremlin officials.
