Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Tajani summoned the Russian ambassador to protest Kremlin-linked commentator Vladimir Solovyov’s abusive remarks about Giorgia Meloni.
Russian Commentator Insults Italian Prime Minister
A Russian journalist and television commentator, Vladimir Solovyov, affiliated with the Kremlin, reportedly insulted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a program called “Full Contact.” He referred to her as a “fascist, patent idiot, bad woman,” and used a vulgar term against her.
Solovyov also claimed Meloni is “a disgrace to the human race, and her second name is betrayal; she betrayed Trump, to whom she previously pledged allegiance.”
Italy Protests Offensive Remarks
Italian Deputy Prime Minister Tajani announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon Russian Ambassador Paramonov to formally protest the “scandalous and offensive” statements made by Solovyov on Russian television regarding Prime Minister Meloni.
Tajani expressed full solidarity and support for Meloni.
Trump Criticizes Meloni’s Lack of Support
Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently told the Italian newspaper “Corriere della Sera” that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is not helping the United States in the conflict with Iran.
Trump stated, “She’s not the same person, and Italy won’t be the same country… I am shocked. I thought she had courage, I was wrong.”
Meloni Highlights Crisis in International Law
Meloni, addressing the upper house of the Italian parliament, stated that the U.S. and Israeli intervention against the Iranian regime should be viewed within the context of a crisis in the international system, characterized by increasingly alarming threats and unilateral interventions outside the framework of international law.
She believes “we are facing an obvious crisis of international law and the erosion of a commonly agreed world order.”
Propaganda Warfare
An article on wyborcza.pl notes that the regime “whipping women” is proving more adept at meme creation and satirical videos than the “superpower of pop culture and its ultra-memetic leader.”
