Russian Air Strike on Odesa
Russia launched a massive aerial attack on Odesa in southern Ukraine overnight from Sunday, April 5th, to Monday, April 6th. Ukrainian authorities reported at least three fatalities, including a child, and ten injuries.
Three Fatalities Confirmed
Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa city military administration, announced on Telegram that a child was among the deceased. He added that two of the injured are in critical condition. Authorities stated that residential buildings were the target of the attack.
Damage to Infrastructure and Buildings
Reuters, citing Odesa Oblast Governor Oleh Kiper, reported damage to critical infrastructure facilities and administrative buildings. The scale of the destruction is significant.
Residential Buildings and Homes Damaged
According to The Kyiv Independent, a residential building was among the structures hit in the Russian attack. The injured include a young child and two teenagers. Two individuals were hospitalized in critical condition – one to neurosurgery, the other to the burn intensive care unit.
A residential building and seven homes were damaged in the coastal area. In another part of the city, damage affected another residential building, five homes, a kindergarten, a store, and 27 cars.
Targeting of Civilian Areas
Local authorities previously reported that the overnight attack targeted residential areas in several districts of Odesa. Ukrainian air forces warned of Russian drones in the region. Russia regularly attacks residential buildings and critical infrastructure, as evidenced by a recent April airstrike on Kramatorsk that killed four people, including a 16-year-old boy.
