EU Ambassador to Ukraine responds after Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman mocked her photo of sleeping in bathroom during attacks.
EU Ambassador Responds to Russian Criticism
Katarina Mathernova, head of the EU delegation in Kyiv, responded to criticism from Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharowa. “I was attacked not only as EU Ambassador but also as a woman,” she explained, stating she speaks daily about Russian attacks on Ukraine and revealed she sleeps in a hotel bathroom on a mattress during Russian airstrikes.
“When the spokeswoman of the aggressor sexualizes a photo of a woman seeking shelter from Russian rockets and drones, it says nothing about me or the EU, but everything about the regime Maria Zakharowa represents,” emphasized Mathernova, noting millions of Ukrainians have slept in basements, corridors and shelters for four years due to Russian attacks.
“Mocking the suffering of civilians is not diplomacy. It’s pure propaganda, stripped of humanity,” stated Mathernova, adding nothing will stop her from “informing the world about the horrors Russia inflicts on Ukraine.”
Russian Diplomat’s Comment on “Non-Erotic Photo”
“The internet published a non-erotic photo of the sex life of EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova, showing how she slept in the bathroom due to massive attacks,” commented Maria Zakharowa. “Katarina Mathernova can thank her superiors in Brussels for sponsoring mass murders and ask for an extension of her ordeal by allocating a few hundred billion more for the maniacs on Bankova Street,” she added.
War in Ukraine. Casualties in Russian Attack
Russia attacked Ukraine overnight from Wednesday to Thursday with ballistic missiles and 186 drones, targeting Kyiv among other locations. Despite Ukrainian defense efforts, 22 drones and two ballistic missiles hit 16 targets, with reports of damaged residential buildings and at least two people wounded in Kyiv.
Russian drones also struck the Dnipropetrovsk region. Meanwhile, trilateral talks are ongoing between Ukraine, Russia and the USA in Abu Dhabi. While the meeting was expected to be an opportunity for a ceasefire, the Kremlin broke a several-day so-called energy ceasefire and resumed massive strikes deep into Ukrainian territory the day before talks.
