Russian Drone Attacks on Ukraine Hit Record High in April

Russian forces launched a record 6,583 long-range drones against Ukraine in April, a 2% increase from the previous month, according to AFP analysis.

Increased Drone and Missile Fire, Effective Defense

Russian forces launched 141 missiles in April, an increase compared to March but below February’s level of 288.

Ukrainian air defense forces intercepted 88% of the drones and missiles used in attacks during April.

Shift in Tactics: Daylight Attacks

April saw several large-scale daytime aerial attacks. The Institute for the Study of War suggests Russia may be attempting to increase casualties by striking when more people are outdoors due to warmer weather.

Pavlo Kyrylenko, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, believes daytime attacks cause greater economic damage by disrupting business operations.
