Series of Russian Aviation Mishaps
This crash is not an isolated incident, as another Russian aircraft, an An-26, crashed in Crimea on Tuesday, March 31st, resulting in the deaths of the commander of the Russian Northern Fleet’s air corps, Aleksandr Ivanovich Otroschenko, six of his staff officers, and 22 passengers.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed there was no impact on the An-26 and attributed the crash to technical issues.
Challenges Facing Russian Air Force
The Russian military air force is experiencing a surge in incidents attributed to overexploitation of aircraft, technical errors, and a lack of access to Western components. Reports indicate a Su-34 bomber also crashed in Crimea recently.
Ukrainian Claims of Drone Base Destruction
Major Robert “Madiar” Browdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (SBS), reported that a base housing Orion heavy drones, an An-72 aircraft, and a Russian radar station were destroyed in Crimea during the night of April 1st-2nd.
