A Russian nighttime strike on southern Ukraine killed a seven‑year‑old boy in the Zaporizhzhia region and left several others wounded, while Kyiv suffered drone and missile attacks that caused widespread damage.
Tragic Attack in Zaporizhzhia
The most severe casualties of the night occurred in the Zaporizhzhia region. Regional military chief Ivan Fedorov reported that a seven‑year‑old boy died in the attack.
Fedorov posted the grim news on social media: “Tragic news. Seven‑year‑old boy killed in the night Russian attack.” Local authorities said three other people were wounded and that a portion of civilian buildings was seriously damaged.
Rescue teams on the scene extinguished fires and searched debris for further victims.
Kyiv Attacked by Drones and Missiles
At the same time, Russian forces launched a mass attack on Kyiv. Explosions could be heard in the capital overnight.
Ukrainian aviation authorities reported ballistic rockets fired toward the city and the deployment of kamikaze drones. A fire broke out on a skyscraper in the Pechersk district.
Chief of Kyiv’s military administration Tymur Tkachenko confirmed that drones caused significant damage to a residential building. Rescue operations were ongoing at the scene.
Capital Without Power and Water
Kyiv’s mayor, Vitaliy Klychko, stated that nine people were injured, five of them hospitalized. He added, “The left‑bank part of the capital is without electricity, and there are also water shortages.”
An AFP journalist living in the affected area confirmed the loss of power and water, citing damaged power lines and critical infrastructure.
Attacks Targeted at Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure
Energy Minister Switlana Hrynchuk announced that Russians carried out a concentrated assault on energy facilities across several regions.
She posted that experts are taking all necessary measures to minimize negative effects. According to Ukrinform, Moscow‑put aair‑rescue state in Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia, and many places experienced powerful explosions.
