ABW Seizures Russian Archaeologist

ABW detains Aleksandr B., head of the ancient archaeology division at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, in Poland. The arrest occurred on 4 December in Warsaw, according to RMF FM and confirmed by Special‑Services spokesperson Jacek Dobrzyński.

Alleged Damage to Crimean Heritage

Ukraine has asked Poland to extradite the scientist, who is suspected of destroying cultural heritage sites in occupied Crimea. Estimated losses exceed 200 million hryvnia (over 17 million zloty).

Illegal Excavations in Kerch

Investigators say B. was involved in excavations at the ancient city of Myrmekjon in Kerch without necessary permits. The work began in 2014, and was condemned by Ukrainian authorities, which have been seeking him since November.
