Russian Vessel Drifts 300 Metres From Szczecin Gas Pipeline, Polish Ministry Says

A Russian fishing vessel drifted within 300 metres of a gas pipeline near Szczecin on Thursday, Polish authorities said after Border Guard surveillance confirmed the incident.

A Russian fishing vessel was sighted drifting close to a gas pipeline near Szczecin on Thursday morning, according to a press conference held by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration (MSWiA) on 2 October.

Border Guard Monitors Vessel

The Border Guard observed the vessel, which had been moving from the direction of Russia, and noted it stopped approximately 20 minutes near the pipeline at around 6:30 a.m. before promptly leaving the area after receiving instructions.

MSWiA Confirms Safe Outcome

Polish officials stated that the incident concluded safely and that the area around the pipeline remains under continuous monitoring. They emphasized MSWiA’s immediate and effective response, citing cooperation among agencies to protect strategic infrastructure.

Prime Minister Tusk Addresses Incident

On Thursday, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk informed European political leaders in Copenhagen that the Szczecin incident followed a similar event near the Petrobaltic platform involving Russian vessels two days earlier, highlighting that such incidents occur almost daily in the Baltic region.
