At about 9:40 a.m. on Karola Miarki Street, Rybnik’s preschool No. 4 was evacuated after a sudden alarm triggered in its kitchen.
Alarm Triggered in Kitchen at 9:40 a.m.
Firefighters reported that the alarm activated in the preschool’s kitchen, where CO measurements recorded 35 ppm—a low level that could stem from a flow‑rated water heater. Instructors were instructed to check the device before allowing staff and children to return.
59 Children and 16 Staff Evacuated
All 59 children and 16 employees were taken to a neighboring school, according to a fire‑department spokesperson speaking to Radio 90.
More Than 70 People Present
The preschool housed over 70 individuals at the time of the incident.
Temporary Closure and Inspection
The facility was closed on Monday after the alarm. A company will inspect the faulty equipment on 1 December, and the preschool is expected to reopen on Tuesday.
Children Picked Up by Parents
Parents collected the children earlier, as the preschool’s director, Michalina Merta, confirmed in an interview with Radio 90.
