Polish Catholic radio chief Adam Rydzyk was summoned to Rzeszow prosecutors on December 8, ahead of the 34th anniversary of Radio Maryja, prompting speculation that the station may close.
Rydzyk Summoned to Prosecutors
On December 8, Adam Rydzyk was called to testify before the Rzeszow prosecutor’s office as part of an investigation into financial matters linked to the “Lux Veritatis” foundation and the “Pamięć i Tożsamość” museum bearing Pope John Paul II’s name. He announced the summons in a statement, noting that similar calls had already been issued to other officials.
No Authorities Have Forced The Church
Rydzyk remarked that no authorities had previously forced the Catholic community to submit to pressure, but that the current situation, heading toward closure of the museum, clearly points toward a possible shut‑down of Radio Maryja and TV Trwam because they do not conform to the prevailing political correctness. He urged supporters to inform all Poles—believers and non‑believers—about the threat, warning that tomorrow the attack could hit anyone. He stated this with the help of the regional prosecutor confirmation from Rzeszow prosecutor Dorota Sokołowska‑Mach.
Tax Agency Investigation Highlights Irregularities
The Mazovian National Revenue Administration (KAS) detected irregularities during an audit of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Consequently, KAS notified prosecutors on the suspicion that the minister failed to protect state assets, citing unfavorable contract terms for the “Pamięć i Tożsamość” museum. The KAS notification involved approximately 219 million PLN.
NIK Investigation Reveals Misconduct
The Ministry signed a 2018 contract with the Lux Veritatis foundation under Piotr Gliński’s leadership. The Supreme Audit Office (NIK) found that the ministry spent more than 200 million PLN on the museum, noting improper conduct during the investment. NIK issued a prosecution notice accusing the former minister of exceeding powers, harming public interests, and causing state financial damage of over 57 million PLN.
