Sanok Tragedy: New Findings After Autopsy of Mother and Son

In Sanok, a 69‑year‑old woman attacked by her 46‑year‑old son was found unconscious; police intervention led to the son’s death and new forensic findings.

Mother Defended Herself

In Krakow’s Institute of Forensic Medicine, an autopsy was carried out on a 69‑year‑old woman attacked in Sanok by her own son. Prosecutor Marta Kolendowska‑Matejczuk said the woman suffered numerous multi‑organ injuries, including a punctured lung.

Forensic expert testimony suggested the wounds could have come from a sharp‑edged tool such as a sword, indicating the woman tried to defend herself.

Police Intervention and Death of 46‑Year‑Old

The 46‑year‑old son, the attacker, died following the police intervention. Autopsy revealed many gunshot wounds, including to the chest, abdomen, torso and limbs, all deemed potentially fatal.

Investigators will await a written expert opinion and continue to gather evidence.

Dramatic Recording

Witness footage shows the attacker locked himself with the mother in the apartment. When the gas detector tripped, police and firefighters entered.

The suspect, likely armed with a cleaver or sword, assaulted officers. Police allege he tried to yank a weapon from an officer, forcing them to use force. He died despite resuscitation.
