Saskie Kępa discovery: Trzaskowski calls it entirely unique

Warsaw mayor Rafał Trzaskowski revealed that workers uncovered a trove of unique documents, including photographs, maps and diaries, beneath the floor of a vacant building at Saskie Kępa.

Discovery During Renovation

During a renovation of a vacant property in Saskie Kępa, workers found a concealed space beneath the floor plan. The material was brought to the attention of the city mayor in a video posted on social media.

Contents of the Archive

The concealed cache contains photographs, maps and journals from the period just before the Warsaw Uprising. Among the items are basic food prices – for example, eggs were listed at 120 zł – and sheet maps of East Prussia. Some entries record the activities of the Underground State, while others detail everyday life in the occupied city.

Mayor’s Reaction

Trzaskowski praised the workers for their respectful handling of the find and thanked them for reporting the discovery. He called for experts to examine the materials, noting that the preliminary assessment already looks “sensational”.

Next Steps

The mayor said the city will keep the public informed as specialists investigate the documents. No formal conclusions have yet been drawn.
