Two people were killed and twelve injured when a military missile struck a residential area in Saudi Arabia’s Al-Kharj province.
Saudi Arabia Reports Missile Intercept
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense reported on Friday that it intercepted a ballistic missile near the city of Al-Kharj. On the same day, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have attacked radar systems in the Middle East, including in Al-Kharj.
Civilian Casualties in Residential Area
A military missile fell on a residential area belonging to a company providing maintenance and cleaning services in Al-Kharj province. The incident resulted in the deaths of two Indian and Bangladeshi nationals, while twelve Bangladeshi residents were injured. Material damage was also caused.
International Law Concerns
A Civil Defense spokesperson emphasized that “attempts to attack civilian objects constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.” Appropriate procedures have been implemented in response.
US Military Base in Al-Kharj
Al-Kharj hosts a military airport serving not only Saudi forces but also as a base for the US Air Force. This incident occurred on the ninth day of the Middle East war, which began when Israel and the US launched airstrikes on Iran on February 28. Iran has since retaliated by attacking Israel and Persian Gulf countries, targeting both American bases and civilian objects.
