A controversial song, “I’ll Be Drunk,” sparked debate during a Starachowice school’s opening ceremony, prompting authorities and educators to distance themselves from the event.
Controversial Performance
A city council member, Konrad Rączka, posted a video on social media showing students singing the song “Wedding in Dubai” by the band Daj To Głośniej at the School No. 10 in Starachowice. The lyrics include profanity and the repeated phrase “I’ll be drunk, I’ll be drunk”. The scene occurred in the presence of local authorities, school directors, teachers, media, and parents.
City Distances Itself
The city spokesman stated: “We fully support the opinion that a song containing inappropriate content is not suitable for students, whether they are younger or older, and should not be promoted in a school environment. We are completely against the promotion of unwanted behavior models among children and youth.” The school district also announced that the teachers involved in organizing the event have been disciplined.
School Justifies Intent
The deputy director of the school, Barbara Bedorf, commented: “The song was part of a larger performance, and the fragment that appeared on the internet was taken out of context. It was an interpretation, a reference, a metaphor. Our intentions were completely different from what was presented in public space. It’s necessary to view the entire artistic program to refer to this fragment.” She admitted that the lyrics were poorly chosen and that it was a mistake.
