On March 2 before noon, 481 students and staff were evacuated from a Tczew school after a gas smell was detected.
Gas Smell Triggers Evacuation
The incident occurred on March 2 before noon. At 11:15 AM, services received a report from the Emergency Notification Center about a detectable gas smell in the school building.
School staff detected the smell in the basement and on one floor, leading to an immediate evacuation ordered by the principal. A total of 481 students and staff left the building.
Fire and Gas Teams Respond
Four fire brigades and a gas emergency service were dispatched to the scene. The gas service conducted measurements in and around the building.
According to PAP, Capt. Michał Myrda, press officer of the Tczew Fire Brigade, school staff detected gas in the basement and on a floor at ul. Marii Konopnickiej.
He noted a probable gas pipeline leak outside the school. Firefighters secured the area, and police directed traffic. The school canceled further classes, and no injuries were reported. Operations may continue for several hours.
