A high school student opened fire at a school in the Kahramanmaras province of southeastern Turkey on Wednesday, April 15th, according to Reuters.
Governor Mukerrem Unluer informed CNN Turk that the attacker possessed five firearms and seven magazines, all originating from his retired police officer father.
The shooting resulted in the deaths of one teacher and three students, including the perpetrator.
Investigation Launched
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation into the incident.
Turkish Minister of Justice Akin Gurlek stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the General Prosecutor’s Office immediately launched an investigation, assigning three Deputy Prosecutors General and four prosecutors.
Gurlek added that a broadcast ban has been imposed to protect the integrity of the investigation and urged media outlets to exercise caution regarding confidentiality, promising updates from relevant authorities.
Second School Shooting This Week
This is the second school shooting in Turkey this week.
The previous incident occurred on April 14th at the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical High School in the Siverek district, as reported by BBC.
Approximately 20 people, including around 10 students, four teachers, a cafeteria worker, and a police officer, were injured in that attack, which was carried out by a former student, according to Governor Hassan Sildak.
