Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty revealed Thursday that the President’s Office has held a report from the ABW security agency on him for four weeks, which he claims confirms his innocence.
ABW Report Confirms Speaker’s Clean Record
Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced on Thursday that the President’s Office has possessed a report from the ABW regarding him for the past four weeks.
According to Czarzasty, the report indicates he is “completely clean” and called for President Karol Nawrocki to issue an apology.
He also appealed to the President’s Chancellery for a statement regarding the report’s findings.
Confirmation and Prior Request
Czarzasty confirmed in a radio interview on Thursday that the ABW delivered the report, among others, to the Presidential Palace four weeks ago.
He had previously requested the report be prepared, following demands from the President’s office.
Details of the ABW Findings
“I was informed by the services: ‘You have no contact with anyone who threatens Poland, no one around you is negatively inclined, no one is a spy,’” Czarzasty stated.
He explained that, due to his ongoing counterintelligence protection, any concerning contacts would have been flagged, and he would have been advised to avoid those individuals.
Call for Presidential Reciprocity
Czarzasty urged the President to acknowledge the report’s findings, stating, “The President should say: ‘I received the report, which shows that Mr. Czarzasty is, as he said, completely clean, I apologize, Mr. Speaker.’”
He further advised the President to demonstrate courage by requesting a similar security review of his own apartment purchase, ensuring its legality.
Czarzasty emphasized his own willingness to submit to scrutiny, stating he had provided the services with full access to his life for investigation.
Report Delivery and Initial Concerns
The information regarding the ABW’s delivery of the report to the Presidential Palace was initially reported by the Onet portal on Wednesday.
Scrutiny of “Eastern Contacts”
Representatives from the President’s Chancellery and PiS politicians had questioned why Czarzasty did not complete a security questionnaire while serving as a member of the Sejm’s special services committee.
The questionnaire is required for access to classified information, and concerns were raised about a section pertaining to relationships with foreign nationals.
“Gazeta Polska” reported that Czarzasty had contact with Svetlana Czestnych, a Russian businesswoman with strong ties to the Russian government, according to Mariusz Błaszczak, the head of the PiS club.
National Security Council Discussion
Addressing the issue of security clearances and Czarzasty’s alleged “eastern social and business connections” was a topic during a National Security Council meeting convened by President Karol Nawrocki in February.
