Semi-Truck Fire on Grote-Rowecki Bridge Disrupts Traffic

A semi-truck carrying a maritime container caught fire on the Grote-Rowecki bridge Saturday evening, prompting emergency response and traffic disruptions.

Incident Details

On Saturday, February 14th, around 8:30 PM, a semi-truck of the Iveco brand carrying a maritime container caught fire on the local lane of the Grote-Rowecki bridge towards Marek. The incident occurred in the middle of the bridge.

The fire affected the truck’s cab. The driver managed to stop the vehicle and exit the cab before attempting to extinguish the fire himself, though flames quickly spread throughout the cabin.

Emergency Response

Firefighters and police were dispatched to the scene. Police blocked entry points to the local lane of the Grote-Rowecki bridge from both Wisłostrady and ul. Broniewski sides, securing the area and preventing further vehicles from entering.

A total of five fire brigades were deployed to the scene. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, with two brigades from the Fire Academy remaining at the location by 9:20 PM to continue operations.

Traffic Impact

Approximately ten minutes after the fire was brought under control, public transport was permitted to use the local lane of the bridge. Meanwhile, firefighters prepared to move the vehicle to ul. Jagiellońska to avoid obstructing traffic on the bridge.

According to WTP, disruptions are affecting bus lines 112, 114, 132, 134, 156, 186, 518, 705, and 735 heading towards Białystok. These lines have been rerouted to the S8 route, skipping stops at Żerań FSO 04, PKP Toruńska 02, and PKP Toruńska 04.
