An investigation into allegations made by Senator Tomasz Lenz regarding a hospital director’s statements has become stalled, with documents being passed between prosecutorial units.
Senator Lenz’s Complaint Stalled in Prosecutor’s Office
A complaint filed by Senator Tomasz Lenz concerning statements made by the director of the hospital in Aleksandrów Kujawski has stalled within the prosecutorial system. Documents are circulating between different units, and a decision on which will handle the case has not yet been made.
Meanwhile, further doubts are emerging regarding the medical procedure performed on a member of the parliamentarian’s family, and a National Health Fund (NFZ) inspection is ongoing.
Procedural Delays in Case Assignment
Senator Tomasz Lenz’s complaint was received by the prosecutor’s office in Toruń on April 16th. Several days later, a decision was made to transfer the case to the locally competent unit – the District Prosecutor’s Office in Włocławek.
However, the procedure did not end there. In Włocławek, no decision was made to initiate or reject proceedings. Instead, the case was referred higher – to the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk, which is to determine which unit should ultimately handle the complaint.
Prosecutor’s Office Cites Procedural Reasons
Official explanations from the prosecutor’s office are laconic, citing only “procedural reasons” without disclosing details. While formally permissible, this practice hinders determining the stage of the proceedings and the realistic prospects of its commencement.
Dispute Over Medical Documentation and Procedure
The core of the matter is a conflict between Senator Tomasz Lenz and the management of the hospital in Aleksandrów Kujawski. It concerns a procedure performed on his 13-year-old son on March 15th.
The parliamentarian maintains that the procedure was performed in accordance with applicable medical standards by on-duty doctors, under hospital conditions. He also emphasizes that the medical documentation exists and is available to the family, and has been provided to NFZ inspectors and the medical council.
He believes the hospital director disseminated false information suggesting a lack of documentation, which formed the basis of the complaint alleging a possible crime.
Family’s Concerns and Legal Action
Senator Lenz’s wife, Anna Lenz, also spoke on the matter, emphasizing that the legal actions aim to protect the family’s good name and the safety of their minor child.
Internal Hospital Investigation Reveals Concerns
Parallel to the prosecutor’s actions, an internal investigation was conducted at the hospital. Its results did not dispel doubts but rather deepened them.
Hospital President Mariusz Trojanowski informed that the commission found documentation raising serious concerns, specifically an entry in the medical records book that appeared to have been added on a separate, glued-on page.
Findings suggest the record regarding the procedure may have been created after it was performed. Such practices – if confirmed – could constitute a violation of medical documentation rules, which are strictly defined by law and medical standards.
Additionally, it was indicated that the doctor performing the procedure only provided the documentation upon request from NFZ inspectors, which also became a subject of analysis.
NFZ Control and Potential Consequences
The National Health Fund is conducting its own control proceedings regarding the incident. According to Barbara Nawrocka, spokesperson for the NFZ’s Kujawsko-Pomorskie branch, the inspection has not yet been completed.
Its results may be crucial not only for the hospital but also for the senator himself. Confirmation of irregularities could lead to financial consequences and further legal action against those involved.
Political Dimension and Possible Decisions Regarding Senator
The case also has a political dimension. Within Civic Coalition (Koalicja Obywatelska), of which Tomasz Lenz is a member, no personnel decisions have been made so far.
Club spokesperson Dorota Łoboda indicated that the senator’s position differs from the hospital’s version, therefore awaiting the results of the inspection is necessary. She also noted that if irregularities are confirmed, an apology and coverage of the procedure costs could be expected.
However, at this stage, there are no decisions to suspend the parliamentarian or initiate disciplinary proceedings within the club.
