Senator Seeks Prosecution Over Hospital Director’s Statements

Senator Tomasz Lenz is pursuing legal action against the director of a hospital in Aleksandrów Kujawski over alleged false statements regarding his son’s medical treatment.

Senator Lenz Files Complaint with Prosecutors

Senator Tomasz Lenz announced he is filing a complaint with prosecutors regarding statements made by the director of the hospital in Aleksandrów Kujawski concerning his son’s medical procedure. Lenz stated the complaint stems from the director’s alleged false claims about the availability of medical documentation.

Lenz and his wife issued a joint statement on social media, expressing their determination to defend their reputation and their son’s safety.

Dispute Over Medical Documentation

According to Lenz, the medical documentation for his 13-year-old son’s procedure is held by the parents, the National Health Fund (NFZ) controllers, and the Chamber of Physicians in Toruń. He alleges the hospital director is falsely claiming the documentation is unavailable.

Lenz’s wife added they would not tolerate “this wave of hate and aggression,” emphasizing they are pursuing legal avenues to protect their family’s good name and their son’s well-being.

Investigations Launched

The Office of the Patient Rights Ombudsman requested clarification and a statement from the Aleksandrów Kujawski hospital on Thursday, according to PAP. Barbara Nawrocka, spokesperson for the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Branch of the National Health Fund, stated that the NFZ initiated an immediate inspection of the hospital following media reports, requesting urgent clarification from hospital management.

Initial Reports of Irregularities

Wirtualna Polska reported on Tuesday that irregularities occurred during the organization of a medical procedure for a family member of Senator Lenz in mid-March.

The WP article alleged the procedure was conducted outside standard procedures, without formal consent or medical documentation, and without being placed on a waiting list. The report indicated that the head of surgery and an anesthesiologist, both on duty in different departments, were involved in the medical assistance.

Lenz Denies Allegations

Senator Lenz previously responded to the allegations published by Wirtualna Polska, stating the report did not accurately reflect the events surrounding his son’s healthcare. He affirmed the procedure was performed in a hospital setting by on-duty doctors, adhering to proper medical procedures.

Lenz refuted claims of missing documentation or lack of consent, stating documentation was prepared and his son was discharged after observation with the doctors’ approval. He expressed outrage at the use of his son’s health for sensationalized media coverage.

Hospital Confirms Procedural Issues

Mariusz Trojanowski, President and Director of the Powiat Hospital in Aleksandrów Kujawski, informed PAP on Thursday that an internal investigation is underway.

Trojanowski confirmed the reports from Wirtualna Polska, stating the procedure did occur, bypassing standard procedures, and that the required documentation is missing from the hospital.

Investigation Timeline and Further Statements

The hospital’s internal investigation is expected to conclude next Tuesday. The hospital is also undergoing an NFZ inspection regarding access to services and waiting lists, and has received a request for clarification from the Patient Rights Ombudsman.

Lenz and his wife emphasized in their statement that the WP article targeted their family and their son’s safety, leading to a wave of hate and aggression.

Lenz Details Alleged Falsehoods

Senator Lenz identified three alleged falsehoods in the WP article. He refuted claims his son was admitted without being on a waiting list, stating no patients were waiting for the procedure at the time of his son’s arrival.

He also denied the lack of consent, confirming he was present during the procedure and signed both the consent form and the discharge papers. Lenz further stated that documentation of the procedure exists, including a physical and psychological assessment of his son.

MSWiA Chief Comments on the Case

Marcin Kierwiński, Head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, stated on Friday that many of the reports regarding the procedure at the Powiat Hospital in Aleksandrów Kujawski are inaccurate. He added that the NFZ inspection will determine who is telling the truth.
