Senatorial Favoritism Alleged in Hospital Procedure Bypass

A Polish senator and a family member allegedly received a surgical procedure outside of standard hospital protocols, raising questions of privilege and potential legal breaches.

Allegations of Procedure Bypass

According to reports from Wirtualna Polska, the incident occurred on March 15th. The senator and a close relative reportedly went directly to the surgical ward, bypassing the emergency room and standard intake procedures.

Witnesses claim the pair were given preferential treatment, with a hospital employee stating, “Patients should go to the emergency room, then be admitted to the ward, and only then to the procedure room. Ordinary people wait in line, but they walked in like they owned the place.”

Doctor and Hospital Staff Involvement

The hospital’s chief of surgery and an anesthesiologist were reportedly already waiting for the patient. It is alleged they were pulled from their regular duties to attend to the senator’s family member. The procedure was reportedly carried out the same day.

WP reports that full documentation regarding the procedure is missing from the hospital’s records, meaning the patient was never formally registered on the ward.

Role of Local Political Figure

Lotfi Mansour, a doctor, honorary consul of Tunisia, and local political activist affiliated with the Civic Coalition (KO), was also reportedly present at the hospital during the incident. He allegedly entered the surgical ward in a Maybach, disregarding parking restrictions for emergency vehicles.

His role in the procedure is unknown, but he is known to have a relationship with Senator Lenz.

Hospital Response and Investigation

Hospital director Mariusz Trojanowski (also a Civic Coalition activist) confirmed an internal investigation has been launched. He acknowledged potential procedural and legal violations but refrained from commenting on patient details due to medical privacy concerns.

Trojanowski also stated the procedure cannot be billed through the National Health Fund (NFZ) and that complete medical documentation is lacking.

Medical Ethics Concerns

Jakub Kosikowski, a spokesperson for the Supreme Medical Chamber, described the situation as “total pathology,” highlighting a systemic problem of unequal access to healthcare in Poland.

Kosikowski stated that hospitals are often pressured by political figures to prioritize certain patients, leading to a breakdown in fair and equitable care.

Denials and Legal Threats

Senator Tomasz Lenz declined to answer questions from journalists, issuing a statement calling for an end to attempts to obtain information about his family’s private life and health. Lotfi Mansour also refused to comment, citing medical confidentiality.

Both men threatened legal action if they believe false information is published.

Ongoing Investigation

The internal investigation is ongoing, and its findings will determine whether the matter is referred to supervisory authorities and law enforcement.
