President Nawrocki offers condolences
On Friday, 21 November, Karol Nawrocki posted on social media that a Russian rocket strike on the Ukrainian city of Tarnopol had taken the life of 7‑year‑old Polish citizen Amelka and her mother. “I deeply mourn the death of 7‑year‑old Amelka, a Polish citizen who was killed in Tarnopol together with her mother by the barbaric Russian shelling of civilians,” he wrote, offering sincere condolences to the family.
Prime Minister Tusk calls for the war to end
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk echoed the sorrow, stating that Amelka was seven, a Polish child killed during the brutal Russian missile attack in Tarnopol, and that the cruel war must end. “Russia cannot win this war, which is also about the future of our children,” Tusk wrote on social media.
Foreign Ministry confirms death of Amelka
The Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór confirmed the girl’s death, noting that the attack at night between 17 and 18 November targeted civilian populations. “At night from 18 to 19 November, Russia attacked civilians in Tarnopol, killing 7‑year‑old Amelka with her mother,” Wewiór said.
Casualty count rises to 31 after the missile strike
The casualty count for the Wednesday missile strike on Tarnopol has risen to 31. A Ch‑101 missile hit a residential block, and debris from a six‑storey building yielded 26 bodies. By Friday, additional victims—a woman and two children—were found. In total, 94 people were injured, some in hospitals.
