Snow turning to sleet on Wednesday has caused severe traffic disruptions and multiple collisions across Warsaw and surrounding regions.
General Conditions
On Wednesday, difficult road conditions prevail in Warsaw and the surrounding region – it started snowing before noon, and after 14:00, the precipitation turned into sleet, which resulted in significant slowdown of traffic on many routes.
Currently, travel through most of Warsaw’s streets is severely hindered, and traffic jams are forming on roads in the districts surrounding Warsaw.
Affected Routes
Drivers are reporting problems on a wide area – from Sochaczew to Wyszków, as well as on roads from Warsaw to locations including Mszczonów, Grójec, Kołbiel, Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, Serock, and Warka.
Road Incidents
With worsening weather, multiple road incidents have occurred. On route S8 near Mostówka towards Warsaw, a car hit the barriers. On ul. Czecha in the Kościuszkowców area, a city bus broke down, causing a major traffic jam in the direction of entering Warsaw.
Difficulties are also occurring on route S17 – near the village of Ostrowik towards Lublin, there was a vehicle collision, and traffic is partially blocked. Another incident occurred on route S8 near Radzymin towards Warsaw, with difficulties present in both directions.
Safety Concerns
Problems with road surface passability are being reported on many sections, including expressways, where surfaces are reportedly not cleared of snow, which additionally affects driving speed and increases the risk of further collisions.
