Paco Carmona, head of the fire department in Cordoba, described the course of the rescue operation in an interview with Onda Cero radio. The firefighter said that the services conducting the evacuation of survivors were operating in difficult conditions. – The cars were twisted, we had to move forward gradually, clearing them. It was quite complicated – said Carmona.
– It happened that we had to remove bodies to reach a living person – he added.

Adamuz residents helped in the rescue operation. 75-year-old José María Mendoza said that he and his neighbors had never experienced anything resembling Sunday’s tragedy.
– It was a terrible night. But the whole city got involved and united, even though it was the first time something like this happened here. People came with food and blankets because it was cold. Everyone did what they could – said the man quoted by ‘The Guardian’. 50-year-old builder Benjamín Peñas also emphasized that Adamuz residents engaged in the rescue operation. He added that some of the people he saw at the crash site ‘were in too deep a shock to understand what had happened’.
