A disturbing video emerged on social media showing a young man assaulting a swan with an oar, while fellow kayakers laugh. Left-wing MP Lukasz Litewka immediately reacted, quickly identifying the perpetrator.
Social Media Backlash
Calls for legal action have been growing on social media platforms since the video’s release, raising awareness of animal abuse in Poland.
Legal Consequences
Under Poland’s Animal Protection Act, intentionally causing pain or suffering to an animal may result in incarceration of up to three years. In cases of particularly cruel behavior, the sentence increases to a maximum of five years. In addition, authorities may impose a fine of up to 100,000 zlotys for animal abuse, and occupation bans related to the crime.
Protected Species
