A shooting took place in the lobby of the hotel during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington D.C. on Saturday night, causing chaos and the evacuation of guests, including President Donald Trump and members of his administration.
The assailant was apprehended before reaching the ballroom.
Polish Perspective: “Beyond Imagination”
Among those present at the event were Polish correspondents and Bogdan Klich, the chargé d’affaires of the Republic of Poland in the USA.
Klich stated it was too early to determine the shooter’s motives, but added that such incidents would be unthinkable in Europe, describing the event as “beyond imagination.”
“Everyone Fell to the Ground”
Several shots were fired near the ballroom, though no one in the ballroom was struck. Attendees immediately reacted by falling to the ground or hiding under tables, a practiced response in a country with widespread gun access.
Minister Sikorski Confirms Polish Diplomats’ Safety
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski assured via X (formerly Twitter) that Bogdan Klich, the diplomats, and journalists present at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Hilton hotel were “safe and sound.”

Paweł Żuchowski, RMF FM’s correspondent in the United States, shared footage on X showing the scene, describing the immediate response of attendees hiding under tables during the shooting.
He confirmed that Polish correspondents and representatives of the Polish embassy were safe.

Marek Wałkuski, Polish Radio’s correspondent at the White House, reported that Secret Service agents immediately arrived at the scene, and all attendees sheltered under tables.
