A gunfire attack on 1 November in Vorizia near Heraklion killed at least three people and wounded ten others, as assaulting gunmen fired at homes and vehicles.
Shooting in Vorizia
On 1 November, gunmen opened fire in the village of Vorizia, close to Heraklion, striking residential houses and cars. The incident left at least three people dead and ten injured.
Victims and Injuries
Among the wounded are several children, and dozens of passengers were transported to hospitals by private cars and agricultural machinery since ambulances could not reach the scene during the shooting.
Police Response
Emergency services mobilised nearly all available resources. High‑ranking Greek police officials, including the chief of the national police and the commander of organised crime units, were dispatched to Crete, though it is unknown whether suspects have been detained.
Suspected Motive
Police suggest the attack may be retaliation for a bombing that occurred the previous day, where an improvised explosive device set in a house under construction detonated just before midnight, causing no casualties.
