Shootout in Sanok; Disturbing Video Circulates

On Thursday, November 20, the Provincial Police Headquarters in Rzeszów reported that a man had barricaded himself with his mother in an apartment on the Wójtostwo estate in Sanok, Podkarpackie. Police, hearing a triggered gas detector, suspected the man had deliberately opened the gas trip. The officers decided to enter with the assistance of the fire brigade. During the breach, the armed man attacked the officers.

A witness filmed the incident, capturing an ambulance parked outside the building’s stairwell entrance, followed by police and firefighters opening the doors. The attacker, reportedly armed with a sword or machete, approached the officers while shouting threats. Shots were fired, advancing the attacker toward the entrance. Police later reported that the assailant was shot, was moved for resuscitation, but did not survive.

Commissioner Piotr Wojtunik told TVP Info that firearms were used because the suspect tried to wrest the officers’ weapon with a bladed weapon. The case is being investigated by police and prosecutor. Two police officers and a firefighter were hospitalized, but no ongoing threat to public safety.
