Shots Fired Near White House; Injuries Reported

A shooting occurred near the White House around 3:30 PM local time, injuring a suspect and a teenage bystander.

Incident in Park Near White House

The incident took place around 3:30 PM local time in the park between the White House and the Washington Monument. A Secret Service officer noticed a potentially armed man and pursued him, after which the man opened fire on the officers.

Vice President’s Motorcade Nearby

A motorcade carrying Vice President J.D. Vance was passing by at the time of the shooting, but there is no indication of a connection to the incident. Local police have announced an investigation.

Injuries and Response

The suspect and a teenage passerby were injured and transported to a hospital; their lives are not in danger. Neither police nor the Secret Service have determined the attacker’s motives.

Previous Shootings Near the White House

This is not the first shooting near the White House in recent months. A similar incident occurred in November 2025, where two National Guard members were shot near the White House, and one person was arrested.

White House Temporarily Locked Down

In response to the incident, the Secret Service temporarily locked down the White House complex and advised journalists and staff on the grounds to take shelter. President Donald Trump was delivering a speech at the White House at the time.

In April, a shooting occurred during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The suspect opened fire in a hotel lobby and was apprehended before reaching the ballroom. President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and other administration officials were immediately evacuated by the Secret Service.
