Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski criticized Przemysław Czarnek, the PiS prime ministerial candidate, for accepting EU funding for solar panels while denouncing the EU’s energy policies.
Sikorski on Czarnek’s Hypocrisy
Sikorski described Czarnek as a “special hypocrite” for invoking religious inspiration while expressing hatred towards others, political opponents, and even Christians with differing views.
He further stated that Czarnek’s hypocrisy is exemplified by receiving a subsidy for photovoltaic installation and then condemning the European Union for promoting renewable energy sources.
Strengthening Energy Independence
Sikorski emphasized the need to strengthen Poland’s energy independence, particularly in light of Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure.
He argued that Poland should reduce its reliance on imported coal, oil, and gas, advocating for a diversified energy mix including wind power, solar power, biogas, small hydropower, and energy storage.
Sikorski noted this approach is supported by the Polish General Staff and is being co-financed by the European Union.
Czarnek’s Criticism of Renewable Energy
Sikorski’s comments came in response to Czarnek’s strong criticism of renewable energy and the EU’s energy policies, voiced during his announcement as PiS’s prime ministerial candidate.
It was later revealed that Czarnek has approximately 14 solar panels on his home near Lublin, which were funded with EU money.
Czarnek’s Stance on Energy Policy
Czarnek previously stated Poland should reject the EU’s Emissions Trading System (ETS) and Green Deal, refusing to participate in EU energy mixes and renewable energy initiatives.
He asserted Poland should rely on its own coal reserves, stating, “We have our coal. We don’t have an energy mix, we have coal, we are returning to normalcy.”
