Sikorski Calls Israeli Ambassador over Jed Waszem Scandal

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski demanded the Israeli ambassador visit Warsaw after a false Holocaust claim by the Jed Waszem institute on X, igniting national and diplomatic uproar.

Minister’s Decision

Radosław Sikorski announced that because the misleading post had not been corrected, he would call the Israeli ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He had previously asked for the false information to be amended, suggesting a new caption reading “Occupied by the Germans.”

The Controversial Post

The issue began with a Sunday X post by the Jed Waszem institute claiming that Poland was the first country to force Jews to wear a distinctive badge to isolate them. After criticism from Polish authorities and internet users, the institute attempted a correction but left the original post unchanged, reposting it with a note that the claim was made “by orders of German authorities.”

The original post had reached 3.7 million views, while the corrective post garnered only about 280,000 views. Users also posted notes warning of the institute’s misinformation.

Prime Minister’s Response

Prime Minister Donald Tusk reacted to the post during a press conference in Angola, stating, “I did not believe my own eyes when I read that text.” He criticized the text as intentionally false and hoped the diplomatic pressure would deter future misinformation.
