Following a heated parliamentary debate on EU security programs, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski publicly challenged Antoni Macierewicz to pursue a defamation lawsuit.
Sikorski Responds to Macierewicz
During a parliamentary session on March 13th, lawmakers discussed the EU’s SAFE program. Radosław Sikorski emphasized the urgent need to strengthen Poland’s military due to the tense geopolitical situation and threats from Russia. Members of the PiS party disrupted his speech, prompting Sikorski to ask Włodzimierz Czarzasty, the Sejm Marshal, for a way to calm them.
Sikorski then directly addressed Antoni Macierewicz, questioning the whereabouts of Caracal helicopters and Mistral ships reportedly acquired for a symbolic one euro, and demanding evidence for claims of a Smolensk crash conspiracy.
Macierewicz Hints at Legal Action, Sikorski Responds
On March 16th, Antoni Macierewicz responded to Sikorski’s remarks on the wPolsce24 broadcast, stating he felt pity for the minister, particularly anticipating a future court decision. Sikorski responded on X, accepting the challenge of a lawsuit.
Sikorski stated he would retract the term “świr” (madman) if Macierewicz admitted to intentionally harming Poland on someone else’s orders.
Background: Caracals and Mistrals
In 2016, Antoni Macierewicz claimed that Egypt sold Mistral ships to Russia for one dollar, ships that France had declined to sell to Russia. Justyna Dobrosz-Oracz, writing in Wyborcza, reported that this information originated from obscure online sources and was likely a hoax, with the ship participating in Egyptian-French military exercises.
Regarding the Caracal helicopters, the PO-PSL government in 2015 had planned to purchase them from Airbus. However, after a change in government and Macierewicz becoming Minister of National Defense, negotiations were terminated.
Ukraine Conflict
A drone operator from the Kraken 1654 unit described the current situation, stating that destroying people has become the primary objective, with each action scored like a computer game. This observation comes from a report by Roman Imielski from Kharkiv.
